Guidelines for Funding Minerva House Events
FUNDING PRIORITIES
Events are most likely to be funded if they meet one or more of the following criteria:
· Promotes interaction between faculty/staff and students
· Softens the boundary between academic and social life, enriches cultural/intellectual life outside the class room
· Promotes community among the members of the House
FUNDING REQUIREMENTS
To be funded by a Minerva House, an event
1. Must involve the House and its membership in some significant and intrinsic way. This means the event must either a) be located in or at the Minerva House, or b) significantly facilitate interaction/bonding among House members. Exception: Each House may sponsor one event per term that is aimed at the whole campus community (not specifically House members) and is not held in the House. This must be a new event, created specifically for Minerva sponsorship; it cannot consist of a contribution toward an event created by another organization.
AND
2. Must be open and advertised to the entire House membership. (House faculty who wish to hold events in the House for their classes or advisees are exempt from this policy).
ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES
1) Minerva money should be used to create new social, intellectual and cultural options. Minerva budgets should not be used as a supplemental funding source for activities normally offered by other departments, offices or organizations.
2) Minerva Houses may not make charitable contributions. They may, however, provide funds to support events in which students contribute their time and/or effort toward charitable services.
3) Minerva funding cannot be used for events which are aimed specifically at practitioners of a particular religious tradition. Events which are aimed at a wider audience (e.g., lectures on religious topics, films with religious themes, sharing religious culture with non-members) can receive funds.
4) The following require approval from the Minerva Council:
· expenditures of more than $1000 for a single event
· expenditures of more than $15 per person for food
· expenditures which do not meet the above guidelines
5) Minerva money should be used to promote the life of the House and its contribution to the campus culture, not to benefit specific House members.
