Apply to Union

A view of the Nott Memorial in the fallAll candidates who apply to Union receive a thorough and thoughtful review of their application. A well-rounded class is made up of individuals with different personal strengths, perspectives, backgrounds and ideals. We’re a close-knit community, so we value the unique contributions each student makes to campus life.

We will look carefully at a number of things, beginning with your academic profile. We pay particular attention to your performance throughout your secondary school years and the quality of courses you select, including honors and advanced courses. We request a copy of a graded paper from one of your writing-intensive courses.

Recommendations are also important. You should submit the Secondary School Report form to your guidance counselor, who will forward a transcript of your academic record and a letter of recommendation to our Admissions Office. A report of mid-year grades is also required. Also be sure to include the Teacher Recommendation Form from one of your academic teachers. From these recommendations we get a sense of who you are and the contributions you’ve made to your high school, family and local communities.

We’re also interested in what your personal essay tells us. Perhaps it’s about a challenge you’ve overcome, a belief you hold dearly, an ethical quandary you faced, a risk you took. The essay is a window into how you think and approach life; it’s your unique take on the world.

Finally, we advise you to take the time to come to campus and talk with us in person. Your personal interview with one of our Admissions counselors is a way for you to round out your profile and let us see the full, complex person you are.
